Jochen Dullenkopf is a co-founder of Maritime Property Solutions and the primary author of the Maritime Property Solutions blog. His writing draws directly from hands-on experience — not theory. He has managed properties, coordinated contractors, navigated permits, and lived through the specific challenges that out-of-province and overseas owners face in Atlantic Canada.
Jochen trained as a carpenter in Germany and ran his own carpentry business from 2000 to 2008. During that time he also served as a senior paramedic and emergency responder — a role that demands precision, calm under pressure, and clear communication. He led construction management projects for public buildings including the district court in Biberach and a secondary school in Bad Waldsee, handling everything from structural work to billing and documentation. He holds qualifications in insurance (BWV) and international marketing, and has worked across trades, finance, and client advisory roles.
When Jochen moved to Nova Scotia, he didn't just manage properties from a distance — he renovated one himself. He found contractors in Bridgewater and the surrounding area, dealt with the realities of the local trades market, and learned firsthand what works and what doesn't. He speaks the language of tradespeople and property owners alike. That experience is the foundation of everything Maritime Property Solutions does.
The path to Atlantic Canada wasn't straightforward. Jochen applied for work permits multiple times, worked with several lawyers and consultants, paid a lot of tuition in the school of hard knocks — and eventually made it to Permanent Residence. He knows exactly what overseas owners are up against when they try to navigate Canadian bureaucracy, immigration, and property ownership from abroad. That knowledge is not something you find in a brochure.
In Nova Scotia especially, having someone who understands construction on-site is not a luxury — it's a necessity. Jochen brings construction management experience to every renovation oversight engagement: he knows what good work looks like, what corners are being cut, and how to hold contractors accountable. That is where Maritime Property Solutions genuinely stands apart.
